About Us

In 1985 a group of former national players were looking at ways to enhance the development of football in Barbados. Many ideas were put forward but there were diverging views about the priority issues. No concrete action was taken.

In 1985, George Las Caris was appointed the Manager of the Barbados Junior National Union U-19 tournament.

Faced with a cash strapped national association, the players did not get the necessary exposure that would have allowed them to reach their full potential. For many of the players their first international game was the first time they had played against any player from outside of Barbados. For Barbados football to improve, this situation had to change and the sooner the better.

In 1987, the first Barbados Cup was played with the aim of giving early exposure to young Barbadian players. It featured 12 boy teams, 9 teams were from Barbados, 2 were from Tobago and 1 was from St. Vincent. Games were played at the U-13, U-15 and U-17 level.

The annual tournament now attracts approximately 50 teams drawn from across the entire Caribbean – English, Spanish & French as well as occasionally teams from England, the United States of America and Canada. An U-19 section as well as women’s section has been added.

95% of the players were representing Barbados have played in the Barbados Cup.
